COMPANY PROFILE

In December of 1971, Richard and Joyce Dennard purchased Daily Pharmacy. The pharmacy was located at 113 Second Street, North in Soperton. The location had been a pharmacy since the early 1900's operated first by Mr. and Mrs. Vance Daly and then by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mosley. At the time the Dennards purchased the store, they had one fulltime employee, Mrs. Bobbie Thompson, and one part-time employee. The pharmacy remained in that location until 1976, when it was moved down the street, to 119 Second Street, North, the site formerly occupied by Simons Hardware Store. At that time, the business was incorporated and the name changed to Dennard Drug and Jewelry. This move more than tripled the size of the store making room for the addition of a large gift and jewelry department and a tee shirt shop.

In 1986, two additional buildings were purchased and opened into the drugstore to make room for a TrueValue hardware store. These buildings included the original site of the pharmacy. Over the years, it has been necessary to acquire two more buildings for warehouse space and a building for plants and to build a lumber storage shed.

In 1997, the owner of Dennard's was happy to welcome his son, Blake, as a pharmacist and partner into the business. With the addition of a second pharmacist, it has been possible to offer additional pharmacy services such as service to personal care homes and doc-u-dose packs for elderly patients. The original full-time employee, Mrs. Bobbie Thompson, remains with the store today and is joined by 9 other full-time employees and more than 14 part-time employees and the two pharmacist-owners. Seven young people who have worked in the store over the past twenty-nine years have gone on to become pharmacists working in pharmacies and research from North Carolina to Texas.

Dennard's is a full-service pharmacy and a full-line hardware store. The pharmacy features a full prescription department, a complete over-the-counter medicine department, home health care supplies, a large selection of health and beauty aids, fine fragrances, a wide variety of gifts, trophies and plaques, engraving services, custom-made gift baskets, fine jewelry, china, and crystal. Brand names found in the gift department include Arthur Court Designs, Mikasa China, Crystal Clear bowls, Oneida flatware, Burns of Boston frames, Andrea porcelains, Virginia Metalcrafters brass, Claire Burke and Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, and many others. Christmas sees the gift department turn into a shop filled with theme trees, Santa Clauses, snowmen, and much more to decorate your home and meet your gift giving needs. The hardware store is a TrueValue store and offers sporting goods and customized tee shirts in addition to the hardware line from lumber to garden supplies.
